RANDLES MOVES AHEAD

A satisfying result on the Cavan Rally on the last Sunday in May has propelled Kilgarvan driver, Tom Randles, into a clear lead of Class 14 in the 2002 Dunlop National Rally Championship. The Advanced Bio-Tech/Dyno-Rod Escort RS of Randles and his co-driver, Diarmuid Lynch, finished the event in fourteenth place overall, and recorded a class win in the process. Randles now has a three point advantage at the head of the Class 14 standings.

He held the joint lead of the category going into the Cavan event, having taken maximum points at the previous round in Carlow, but now leads it outright. Douglas Richardson was second in class in Cavan, and he is now Randles' closest challenger. Two of the other leading Class 14 runners did not score points in this particular round - Enda Keenan failed to finish the event, while David Long did not enter.

The 2002 Dunlop National Rally Championship has now reached its half-way point, with five further rounds remaining between now and October. The next event is the Waterford-based Raven's Rock Rally, on June 30th.
