2001 MTC Tour of the Sperrins

Magherafelt and District Motor Club has announced the cancellation of the 2001 MTC Communications Tour of The Sperrins Rally. The event, round four of the NI Rally Championship, was due to take place on Saturday 19th May.

Due to the degree of uncertainty regarding the current situation with foot and mouth and that fact that the event is based entirely in a farming community, using a cattle market as a service area, the Club felt that to cancel the 2001 MTC Communications Tour of The Sperrins was the best option for all concerned.

In reaching this decision, careful consideration was given to the advice the Club received from the relevant Government bodies, and the current guidelines of the sports governing body, the Motor Sports Association.

If the cancellation of the MTC Communications Tour of the Sperrins in any way alleviates the threat that currently exists from foot and mouth, Magherafelt and District Motor Club feel that this was the only appropriate action to take.

Any future events run by the Club, will only take place if the situation improves and after consultation with the relevant bodies.
